Zone Rep Report November 2015

Liz ShawIn the Zone by Liz Shaw

Hello Zone 9ers,

September in Zone 9 means Club Racing and HPDE at Miller Motorsports near Salt Lake City. Unlike last year, the weather cooperated and both days were sunny and rain-free. The HPDE started things off on Friday and then on Saturday morning, there were practice sessions and a (non-points) sprint race. I helped a little with Timing, after getting the sponsor banners placed in a few areas. On Sunday, the 1-hour Enduro started at 10am and then the Sprint race started at 1pm. Rocky Mountain Region members, Tommy Dean and Joe Bank, won in GTC4 and GTC5, respectively, and Intermountain Region member Darrell Troester won in GTC3. In the Sprint race, the winners were: GTC5, Joe Bank; GTC3, 1st place – Darrell Troester; 2nd place – Chris Vivolo; and 3rd place – Mark Kemp. And during the awards presentation in the afternoon, Joe Bank was presented with the “Workers Choice” award. Congratulations, Joe!

Just a few days after returning from Salt Lake City, I headed to Monterey for Rennsport Reunion V and had a wonderful time! I’ve attended the last 2 Rennsports and this one was by far the largest and most spectacular. I volunteered at the PCA Hospitality Tent on Friday and it was a great place to be to see many PCA friends. During the day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, PCA and PCNA featured several speakers and I got to listen to the talk on the new 991.2 Turbo, witness the winning of the 60th Anniversary Club Coupe, and to listen to (former and current) Porsche racers.

There was so much going on all over the track that it was impossible to see and experience everything but I did watch a lot of racing from my two favorite spots: the stands at Start/Finish, and the Corkscrew. If you were not one of the 57,000+ attendees this year, be sure to plan on attending the next Rennsport. Even if you were at RRV this year, do plan on attending the next one!

The weekend after Rennsport, I joined many Roadrunners (and a couple of Alpine Mountain Region members) for the Balloon Launch Party at Porsche of Albuquerque. The dealership is perfectly situated for viewing the balloons and this year, we were treated to lots of balloons moving above the dealership. PofA has been hosting breakfast and coffee for us for several years and it’s well-appreciated.

Coming up for me in late October is Carrera Region’s OktoberFiesta and then in November, I’ll head to Ontario, CA, for PCA’s Tech Tactics West. And in between those events, I hope to attend a few other Zone 9 Region events.

Hope to see many of you somewhere in the Zone!

Liz Shaw
