Zone Rep Report June 2014

Liz ShawIn the Zone by Liz Shaw

Hello Zone 9 members,

Another April is on the books and it was another successful PCA month for everyone. I traveled to Colorado Springs in mid-April for Alpine Mountain Region’s Déjà Vu Drivers’ Education at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Dwight and Dana Kasten went out of their way to provide a wonderful track experience for new and seasoned drivers. Many of the new drivers were due to their “AMR DE 101” in early March. After a full day of driving, we were treated to a technical presentation from Drew Dayton of Toyo Tires. Drew described the different types of tires that Toyo offers, plus he reviewed some techniques like measuring tire temperature. Drew also joined us for a delicious catered dinner and answered questions from everyone.

On Sunday, I had to hit the road to Santa Fe before the driving began because of a scary-looking storm that came into the area early. Many drivers didn’t show up but for those that were there, I heard that they were able to get in lots of laps. Good job, Dwight & Dana – we’ll see you next year at PPIR!

Unfortunately, I was not able to join Llano Estacado Region for their monthly breakfast in Amarillo but I promise I will get there this summer!

Further south in Texas, West Texas Region reported on some successful events in April and early May. And they have a new website! Be sure to check it out: In mid-May they’ll have a Porsche Car Selection seminar with involvement from Park Place Porsche. And then on June 7th, they’ll have an autocross at a parking lot at South Plains Mall. WTR has already received a lot of sponsorship money and this will help to get their equipment together for their autocross series. With the new website and President Wil Carter’s regular updates, the Region is well on their way to attracting new members and providing value for existing members.

I won’t be able to attend Intermountain Region’s Amazing Rally in mid-May but I’ll be looking for some reports on how it went.

At the end of May, Jo Martin (National Safety Chair) and I will travel to New York for the “Clash at the Glen – Club Race”. We’re both looking forward to seeing the Watkins Glen racetrack and meeting everyone there.

And then there’s Parade, just two weeks later! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone from Zone 9 and around the country. For first-time Parade attendees, you’re in for a real treat!
