Zone Rep Report May 2015

Liz ShawIn the Zone by Liz Shaw

Hello Zone 9ers,

I hope that many of you are part of the 900+ registrants for this year’s Parade! It’s going to be a good one, especially with all of the 60th anniversary celebrations going on. One of the highlights is the “60 4 60” display, which will consist of car representation from each of the 60 years of PCA. The cars will not necessarily be the best concours examples, but will have ties to the Club’s history. This year’s Parade will also feature a “PCA Museum”, where memorabilia and Club artifacts will be on display. I’ll contact Parade registrants soon to see if we want to gather for a Zone 9 party.

Last month, I attended the 12 Hours of Sebring and it was lots of fun. If you’ve never been to that track, I suggest adding it to your race or spectator calendar! The weather was very warm and humid, so I tended to stay in the Porscheplatz tent most of the time. PCNA was very generous in sponsoring this tent and there were 2 big-screen TV’s, tables, chairs, and plenty of water. Lots of door prizes were handed out and I got lucky, winning a set of Porsche Design wine glasses. Thanks to PCNA and Zone 12 for all their hard work at the Porscheplatz.

I saw some qualifying sessions ¬†and races on Friday and at noon, I was able to ride in David O’Neal’s Cayman GTS for track parade laps. David is the former Zone 12 Rep and he’s driven at Sebring numerous times. I also met up with Dede Rogers from Carrera Region and she introduced me to some of the drivers and team members. The whole weekend was lots of fun and I’d like to go there again next year.

Next on my PCA calendar was to attend Alpine Mountain Region’s 40th Anniversary Celebration Brunch at the Broadmoor “Cheyenne Lodge” in Colorado Springs. I left Santa Fe well before sun-up and got to the party right on-time. It was wonderful to see many of my AMR friends and to meet more AMR members. Kathleen Lennon and her crew put on a great party and it was nice to hear from past presidents. Founding member, Fred Veitch, also spoke for a few minutes, describing how AMR got started. Here’s to the next 40 years, AMR!

As of this writing, I’m a few days away from going to Fontana, CA, for the California Festival of Speed. Should be lots of fun, plus on the way to the track, I’ll be able to eat at my favorite place, In-N-Out Burger!!

Next month, I still have on my calendar to attend West Texas Region’s autocross in Lubbock and I hope to get into town in time to socialize with some West Texans. And later in the month will be Roadrunner Region’s Fiesta New Mexico and then Intermountain Region’s Amazing Rally, at the end of the month.

Please check the Zone 9 Region calendars for events to attend so that you can shoot to win the Zone 9 Challenge!

Hope to see you at a Porsche event soon!
