Zone Rep Report April 2015

Liz ShawIn the Zone by Liz Shaw

Hello Zone 9ers,

The Zone 9 Presidents’ meeting was held in El Paso at the end of February and it was a huge success. We were honored to have PCA National President Caren Cooper, National Secretary Cindy Jacisin, and National Safety Chair Jo Martin as our guest speakers. We got things started on Friday at the home of Dan and Pam Thomas. Dan is the Carrera Region president and he and Pam have put in LOTS of time to keep Carrera Region active. Their home overlooks the city lights of El Paso and we enjoyed delicious food and the chance to visit with each other.

On Saturday, we met all day at the Radisson hotel and we had excellent discussions on club topics. It was great to hear from both Caren and Cindy and all of us learned some things about the club. In the afternoon, the webmasters and newsletter editors had their own break-out session to discuss the work with their respective Regions and the rest of us discussed the Region Procedure Manual, among other topics.  Jo Martin gave an excellent talk on safety and focused on empowerment – for both safety stewards and PCA participants at events. We also picked the location for next year’s Zone 9 Presidents’ meeting and it’s going to be somewhere in the Rocky Mountain Region.

That night, we gathered for a most delicious dinner at the El Paso Club in downtown El Paso. It was nice to see the city lights from the 18th floor and everyone had a great time. Carrera Region member and Past-President, Dede Rogers, was our generous host, and everyone enjoyed talking to her about cars, cats, dogs, cars, travel, cars. J

I’m slowly adding more events to my PCA calendar and still to come is the California Festival of Speed, Alpine Mountain Region’s 40th PCA Anniversary party in Colorado Springs, an autocross in Lubbock, the Amazing Rally in Utah and Fiesta New Mexico! But there are still several “open” weekends for the next few months so I’m sure I can find something else to add to my calendar!

As of this writing, we are about a week and a half away from Parade Registration and I hope there will be LOTS of Zone 9 members who are planning to attend Parade. It’s going to be a good one, with lots of 60th anniversary celebrations, and you don’t want to miss out on staying at the spectacular French Lick Resort.

Hope to see you at a Porsche event soon!

Liz Shaw
