Zone Rep Report January 2016

Liz ShawIn the Zone by Liz Shaw

Hello Zone 9ers,

Welcome to 2016! Even though this is the January 2016 report, I still have to tell you about the end of the year in Zone 9. In November, I attended a fun Ladies’ Luncheon at the home of Paula Sears and Mike Suttle. It was great to visit with everyone and get caught up on their news. One of the creative ideas that Paula had was to “rotate” the women among the seating areas so that they were able to chat with different people throughout the luncheon.

A couple of weeks later, I traveled to Ontario, CA, for PCA Tech Tactics West, which was held at the Porsche Training facility. This was my third Tech Tactics and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the presentations. The highlight of the day was the presentation on the Cayman GT4 Clubsport. The car was unveiled at the LA Auto Show the day before so it was unavailable to us at Tech Tactics, but we got to hear about the project from beginning to end. I also attended some excellent sessions on brakes, Porsche diagnostics, and tire technology. You gotta put Tech Tactics West on your “to do” list for 2016!

After Thanksgiving, I drove to Amarillo to attend Llano Estacado Region’s Holiday Party. This year, it was held at Vintage Auto Haus and it was a treat to be able to walk among all the pretty cars, before and after dinner.

And then a few days later, I drove to Colorado Springs to attend Alpine Mountain Region’s Holiday Party, held at The Pinery. The AMR members always put on a fun party and it was great to visit with everyone and to be a part of their celebration. I think it’s admirable that the Region leadership recognizes all of the hard work from the members and the sponsorship and support they get from Porsche of Colorado Springs.

As is usual during the holiday season, more than one Zone 9 Region held their holiday party on the same day – December 5th. I was unable to attend Roadrunner Region’s party but I do want to congratulate Bob and Patricia Blackwell on winning the Zone 9 Challenge for 2015! They were presented the trophies at the Roadrunner party and you can see from their picture that they were thrilled to win the challenge. They were tied with another couple for the award and their attendance at Escape 2015 gave them the win. Way to go, Bob and Patricia!

Coming up for me in January is the PCA Winter Board meeting in Atlanta. We’re going to get a tour of the Porsche Experience Center and I hope we get to “experience” the track, up close and personal!
